Freelance Senior Estimator / Cost Planner - Major Projects Location: Birmingham Contract: Freelance - Minimum 3 months Working Pattern: Ideally full-time, with consideration given to a 4-day week We are working with a well-established construction contractor delivering large-scale projects within the public sector, who are looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Senior Estimator to support their growing workload in Birmingham. The successful candidate will ideally have a main contractor background and experience working on complex, large-scale projects, with a strong understanding of cost planning, estimating and commercial change management. The role will focus on developing final cost estimates for projects progressing through the second stage of procurement, alongside market testing, building up preliminaries and managing change control. Key Responsibilities: Developing and finalising cost estimates for large-scale public sector projects. Undertaking market testing to validate rates, pricing and overall project costs. Building and maintaining preliminaries to support accurate and consistent cost planning. Supporting change control processes and assessing the commercial impact of project changes. Working closely with project and commercial teams to ensure robust, accurate and commercially viable estimates. Supporting projects through the pre-construction and procurement stages. Requirements: Proven experience as a Senior Estimator or Estimator within the construction industry. Ideally, a background working for a main contractor. Experience with large-scale construction projects, preferably within the public sector. Strong knowledge of estimating, cost planning, preliminaries and change control. Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail. Availability for a minimum three-month freelance assignment. Additional Information: Based in Birmingham, with approximately three days per week required in the office. Full-time availability is preferred, although a four-day week will be considered for candidates working on other commissions. SC Clearance is preferred, with candidates holding a minimum of BPSS also potentially considered. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freelance estimator/QS to join a major project team and contribute to the successful commercial development of a portfolio of significant construction schemes
