Location: Basildon, Essex Job Title: Mental Health Support Worker – Day Salary: £26,298 per annum Hours: 37.5 hours per week Contract: Permanent, full-time Location: Basildon and surrounding areas, Essex About the Role P&S Care & Support is recruiting a Support Worker on behalf of a client providing community-based mental health support services. This is an opportunity to join a service supporting adults with enduring mental health needs as they work towards recovery, greater independence and improved wellbeing. You will work directly with individuals to help them develop practical skills, achieve personal goals and build the confidence to manage their lives more independently. Support will be tailored to each person's needs, with a focus on positive outcomes and reducing reliance on hospital admissions and other medical interventions where possible. The role involves working with individuals over a defined recovery period, helping them identify their goals, develop their resilience and take practical steps towards greater independence. Key Responsibilities You will provide practical, social and emotional support to individuals in their homes and within the community. This will include helping people access appropriate services, maintain their accommodation, manage housing-related issues and develop the skills needed for independent living. You will work collaboratively with external agencies and other professionals to ensure individuals receive appropriate support. The role may also involve supporting people with complex needs, including dual diagnosis, and helping them access relevant mental health and substance misuse services. You will maintain accurate records, contribute to support plans and risk assessments, monitor progress against agreed outcomes and encourage individuals to participate in community activities, education, training and employment opportunities where appropriate. The role requires a flexible approach, as you will work across different services and locations according to operational needs. Working Pattern This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week on a seven-day rolling rota. The standard two-week rota includes early shifts from 8:00am to 4:00pm and late shifts from 1:30pm to 9:30pm, with one working weekend every two weeks. Although these are the standard shift patterns, some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the service. About You We are looking for someone who is compassionate, patient and committed to helping people achieve positive changes in their lives. You should have experience working with adults with mental health needs or in a similar support environment, alongside a good understanding of recovery-focused support and the challenges people may face when working towards independent living. You will need strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to build positive professional relationships and the confidence to work independently as well as part of a team. An understanding of housing-related issues, complex needs and dual diagnosis would be beneficial. You should also be comfortable maintaining professional boundaries, recognising when someone may need additional intervention and working collaboratively with other professionals. The successful candidate must be flexible, organised and committed to ongoing learning and development. Benefits The role offers a range of benefits, including: Access to an employee benefits platform offering discounts, wellbeing support and online GP services. Death-in-service benefit of twice your annual salary. Workplace pension scheme, with automatic enrolment after three months. 22 days' annual leave plus statutory bank holidays, increasing to 25 days after three years of continuous service. Company sick pay after 12 months of continuous service. Mandatory training and opportunities for professional development. Please note: The employer is unable to offer visa sponsorship
