What's on offer
Full job description (from employer)⌄
Application / Design Engineer (Seals) – Nottingham South Nottingham NG11 | Hybrid, 2 days in the office | Permanent | Up to £57k DOE + bonus Lead the design proposal from the first customer call to the approved drawing. Then see the failed parts come back and work out why. A global precision engineering business needs an Application Engineer / Design Engineer at its site in Nottingham. It makes seals and sealing components from polymers and elastomers. Customers and the sales team come to you when a seal has to work in a hard application. Polymer, plastics or elastomer experience helps, but a strong mechanical design background is the main thing. What you’ll do Lead design proposals for customers, and say plainly where their needs and the company’s capability don’t match Recommend materials for each application, using material data such as Tg, density and modulus Run design analysis on components and assemblies, using 3D CAD and FEA (finite element analysis) where needed Set the testing and qualification methods, and approve drawings for production Investigate returned seals and components to find the mode of failure, then advise on design changes Check the work of less experienced engineers and technicians, and mentor them Visit customers and present at industry forums What you need 6+ years as a design engineer or application engineer, or in a similar engineering role A BSc in engineering or a related technical field 3D CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks FEA knowledge, Lean Six Sigma and material testing experience are a plus What you get You approve the design proposals and drawings you lead. You see how your seals perform in the field, through failure analysis on returned product. You direct and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians. You present to customers, industry forums and technical societies. Annual bonus, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and an on-site gym Good to know: the Application / Design Engineer role is hybrid, with Tuesday and Wednesday in the office at Ruddington. Expect 10–20% travel for customer and industry meetings. Interested? Apply here, send your CV, or message me with a few lines on your background. Or ring me for a confidential chat first
