Full job description (from employer)⌄
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a leading Tier One Main Contractor, overseeing commercial activities across two major construction projects valued at £35m and £60m. We are looking for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in main contracting, who is comfortable working on site and taking ownership of subcontract packages from procurement through to final account. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing packages independently, working closely with site teams and maintaining strong commercial control throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Manage the commercial delivery of subcontract packages across two major construction projects. Take full commercial responsibility for allocated packages, from procurement and subcontract negotiation through to final account. Prepare, manage and monitor cost reports, forecasts and budgets. Review subcontractor applications for payment, variations and compensation events where applicable. Identify, value and manage variations, change control and commercial risks. Procure subcontractors and negotiate competitive package terms. Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and the wider project team to ensure commercial and operational objectives are achieved. Maintain an active site presence, building strong relationships with site teams and subcontractors. Monitor subcontractor performance, progress and contractual compliance. Support the preparation of monthly CVRs, cash flow forecasts and financial reporting. Ensure contractual notices, records and commercial documentation are maintained accurately. Drive value engineering, cost efficiency and effective commercial management throughout the projects. Essential Requirements Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent recognised surveying degree. Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor, ideally within a Tier One environment. Demonstrable experience managing subcontract packages independently. Strong site-based experience, with a practical understanding of construction operations and programme delivery. Experience managing packages from procurement through to final account. Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills and contractual knowledge. The ability to work collaboratively with operational teams while maintaining robust commercial control. Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills. The Ideal Candidate You will be a proactive and commercially driven Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being involved in the detail of project delivery. You will be confident managing subcontractors, resolving commercial issues and working directly with site teams to ensure packages are delivered within budget and in line with contractual requirements. Experience working on large-scale construction projects and managing multiple packages simultaneously will be highly advantageous. If you are a degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor with strong package management experience and a hands-on, site-based approach, we would like to hear from you
