Full job description (from employer)⌄
About you If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who enjoys taking ownership of the commercial side of construction projects, this could be a really good opportunity for you. You will be joining an established construction business, working from the BN44 3AA area of West Sussex, where you will have responsibility for managing project costs, protecting margins and making sure projects are commercially successful. This is not a role where you will simply be producing reports and passing them on. You will be involved in commercial decisions, working closely with operational teams, managing subcontractors and helping more junior Quantity Surveyors develop. You will need to be commercially confident, organised and comfortable taking responsibility for your own workload. The salary is £80,000 to £85,000 per annum. Your experience You will need a solid background as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry, with experience managing the commercial aspects of projects from procurement through to final account. You should be confident managing subcontractor packages, valuations, variations, cost reporting, forecasting and project profitability. You will understand how to protect margins, identify commercial risks and make sure projects are performing in line with their budgets. Experience managing or mentoring Quantity Surveyors and Trainee Quantity Surveyors would also be beneficial, as there will be an opportunity to support the wider commercial team. Ideally, you will hold a degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial subject. CIOB or RICS accreditation would be advantageous, although it is not essential. You will also need a good understanding of construction contracts, measurement and procurement, along with strong communication and negotiation skills. What you will be doing with your experience You will take commercial responsibility for construction projects, working closely with the operational teams to make sure they are delivered profitably. You will manage procurement, appoint subcontractors, place orders and negotiate variations with clients and suppliers. You will also be responsible for valuations, cost reporting, forecasting and monitoring the financial performance of your projects. A big part of your role will involve understanding where each project stands commercially, identifying potential risks and making sure issues are dealt with before they affect profitability. You will work closely with Contracts Managers and the wider project teams, maintaining good relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers. There will also be an element of leadership, supporting junior members of the commercial team and helping them develop their knowledge and confidence. You will provide regular commercial reports to senior management, making sure they have an accurate understanding of project performance, risks and opportunities. About the business You will be joining an established construction business with a structured commercial team and a strong focus on delivering projects profitably. The business is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who can take responsibility for the commercial performance of projects while working closely with the operational teams. You will have the opportunity to use your experience across procurement, cost management, contractual matters and commercial reporting, while also supporting the development of other members of the team. If you are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor position where your commercial judgement will be valued and you can take genuine ownership of your projects, this could be worth a conversation. The salary is £80,000 to £85,000 per annum. Next steps A CV isn't needed to start a conversation, so no matter what stage you're at in your job search, get in touch to discuss
